Health Care Under Fire: Analyzing Recent Attacks in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories (May 28 – June 10, 2025)

The Safeguarding Health in Conflict Coalition (SHCC) reported over 1,361 incidents of violence against health care in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) in 2024. This includes at least 192 cases of damage to health facilities, mainly caused by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) using explosive weapons. Hospitals, dental clinics, pharmacies, and rehabilitation centers were impacted by airstrikes, artillery fire, and military incursions.

Notable hospitals like Kamal Adwan Hospital and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital suffered repeated attacks. For instance, Al-Shifa Hospital, a major medical facility in Gaza, experienced multiple strikes between October and December 2023. These attacks resulted in significant threats to staff and patients. Medical teams continuously face dangers, making it increasingly difficult to provide care.

In 2024, Israeli forces used explosive weapons near health facilities more than 230 times. This widespread violence not only harms infrastructure but also creates a chaotic environment, hindering access for patients needing urgent care.
