Zagreb: Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Croatia on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian leader to this European nation. His trip aims to enhance cooperation across various sectors.
Upon arrival, Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković warmly welcomed Modi at the airport. Modi expressed his gratitude, stating on X, “This is a special visit, and I appreciate the warm reception.” He shared a moment from his welcome, showing locals chanting Vedic hymns. “The bonds of culture are strong and vibrant!” he said.
Plenković emphasized the timing of Modi’s visit, noting it comes during a significant geopolitical moment. He mentioned the two nations are ready to start a new chapter in their relationship, paving the way for deeper ties in several sectors.
As Modi arrived at his hotel, he was met by members of the Indian community. They greeted him enthusiastically, chanting slogans like “Vande Mataram.” There was even a traditional dance performance, showcasing India’s rich culture. This visit follows Modi’s participation in the G7 summit in Canada and a stop in Cyprus.
Modi is set to meet with Plenković and President Zoran Milanović during his stay. Before leaving India, he spoke about the long-standing cultural connections between the two nations, highlighting the potential for new avenues of collaboration.
Historically, India and Croatia share strong ties that date back centuries. Today, India sees a rising interest in strengthening its relationships in Europe. As the most populous country, India is keen on boosting its influence and partnerships on the continent.
Recent data from the Ministry of External Affairs suggests that approximately 300,000 people of Indian origin live in Europe, many of whom have been influential in building cultural bridges. This visit emphasizes India’s commitment to enhancing its engagement with European Union countries.
In a world becoming increasingly interconnected, collaboration between nations like India and Croatia can lead to valuable partnerships in trade, technology, and culture. The mutual respect and shared history between these countries could pave the way for significant opportunities ahead.
