Google Messages just got some exciting updates! These new features, such as “Snooze notifications” and “Delete for everyone,” aim to enhance your messaging experience.
Snooze Notifications
Now, you can snooze notifications from specific conversations. A simple long-press on the chat shows a snooze icon. Once you click it, you can choose to snooze for 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, or even "Always." When you snooze a chat, it will gray out, and you’ll see a snooze icon below the time. To unsnooze, just long-press again and tap the clock icon.
Delete for Everyone
In group chats that use RCS (Rich Communication Services), you can now delete sent messages. Long-press a message to see options to "Delete for everyone" or "Delete for me." Just keep in mind that people using older app versions may still see your message.
Custom Icons for Group Chats
Google has rolled out more personalization options. You can now rename group chats and replace the default 2×2 grid of profile avatars with a custom icon. Upload your own image or choose from Google’s collection of illustrations to give your group chat a fun identity.
RCS Status and Dynamic Color
The New chat page now displays the RCS status, adding a visual cue for users. Plus, stable users can enjoy Dynamic Color theming, providing a fresh appearance for the app.
What Experts Say
Tech experts like those from TechCrunch note that Google is closing the gap with popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. As users increasingly expect enhanced privacy and customization options, these features align with current trends in messaging.
User Reactions
On social media, users are buzzing about these updates. Many are excited about snoozing notifications, saying it helps manage chat overload. Others appreciate the delete feature, especially for group chats where messages might be sent in haste. Some are even sharing their new custom icons, making chats more personal and fun.
These additions show how Google Messages is evolving to meet user needs, making it a strong player among messaging apps. You can learn more about these updates and download the app here.
