Join the Fun at Amberg Ducky Day: Exciting Duck Races, Delicious Food, Raffles, and More!

AMBERG, Wis. — This Saturday, Amberg is buzzing with excitement for the second annual Ducky Day. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ball Diamond, the whole community is coming together for a fun-filled day.

The duck race is the star of the show, featuring 2,000 bright yellow ducks. At 2 p.m., these ducks will make their way down the Pike River. It’ll take about 15 to 30 minutes for them to float to Mosquito Park, where prizes await. First place wins $500, second gets $250, third earns $150, and the last duck to finish takes home $100. Plus, an additional 20 entries will win $25 each!

You can grab a duck ticket for $5 or five for $20 at local spots like Mathis Hardware and Amberg Pub until 1:30 p.m. on event day, while supplies last. Each ticket matches a unique duck number, adding to the thrill.

But the fun doesn’t stop at the races. The event will also feature delicious food, including brats and hamburgers, beverages for all ages, and live music. Harbor Lights will play from noon to 3 p.m., and Broken Arrow, a local classic rock band, will perform from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Amberg Pub. A meat raffle is also part of the lineup, happening from 3 to 6 p.m.

Families can enjoy activities like bounce houses and face painting, making it a great day for kids too. The event will feature around 35 raffle baskets with exciting prizes, including a signed Green Bay Packers football and a stay at an Airbnb in Athelstane.

The Ducky Day was brought back last year thanks to the Amberg Parks and Recreation Committee. Member Tilly Wollenberg noted that the duck race had been a tradition in the past, originally linked to fundraising for the fire department. Their goal now is to raise funds for improvements in the area, such as adding a permanent bathroom at the ball field or even a new playground.

Wollenberg shared their commitment: “We’re keeping this alive and making it better.” In a fun twist, she mentioned last year’s rain was “good for ducks,” and despite the weather, the turnout remained strong. This year, she hopes for a “quacktastic” success.

In a similar vein, local festivals are seeing a resurgence across the country, with many communities reviving older traditions. Events like these not only bring joy but also foster community spirit and support local causes.
