CHI Mercy Health Partners with Leading General Contractor for Exciting Expansion Project

CHI Mercy Health in Douglas County is gearing up for a major transformation. They’ve chosen Howard S. Wright Construction from Portland as the General Contractor for their upcoming Master Facility Project. This exciting modernization is set to kick off this summer, with hopes to wrap up by 2028.

The medical center will invest $34 million to enhance its campus. Right now, their facility spans 190,045 square feet but often runs at full capacity. This leads to challenges for both patients and staff. The aim is to improve access to medical services and expand specialty care offerings for residents in Douglas County.

Planned upgrades include expanding operating rooms and the emergency department, plus adding a new endoscopy lab. These changes are designed to meet the growing demand for inpatient and outpatient care.

Ketul Patel, President of CommonSpirit Health’s Northwest Region, highlighted that this project has long been a priority. He stated, "We are committed to clinical excellence and providing top-quality care for our community."

In addition to facility upgrades, Mercy is focused on recruitment. They plan to bring in more healthcare providers to ensure access to necessary care continues. Mercy already invests $25 million annually in Douglas County through charity care, community outreach, and education.

Market President Russell Wooley expressed excitement about the upcoming changes: "This expansion is crucial as our community needs grow. We’re grateful for the support we receive."

Healthcare facilities like Mercy play an essential role in local communities. According to a 2021 report from the American Hospital Association, hospitals contribute about $2.6 trillion annually to the U.S. economy.
