David Lynch’s Auction: Rare Belongings, Including Unfinished Film Scripts, Sell for .25 Million!

Personal items from filmmaker David Lynch, who passed away earlier this year, sold for over $4 million at a recent auction in Los Angeles. The most expensive item was a set of scripts for his unrealized film project, Ronnie Rocket, which fetched a staggering $195,000.

The auction featured nearly 450 items, including props from Lynch’s iconic films, personal gear like video cameras and music equipment, and a director’s chair that went for $70,000. One stand-out item was his La Marzocco GS/3 espresso machine, which sold for $45,500. It’s rumored that this machine produces a "damn fine" cup of coffee, a nod to Lynch’s well-known preference for coffee in his creative process.

Notable sales also included scripts from Mulholland Drive and the Twin Peaks pilot, which sold for $104,000 and $91,000, respectively. Items like a custom-built five-neck guitar and distinctive decor from Twin Peaks—a red curtain and a zigzag rug—also drew impressive bids.

The total auction amount reached around $4.25 million, including fees, and all proceeds will benefit Lynch’s estate. The most talked-about item, the Ronnie Rocket scripts, has a cult following despite Lynch’s efforts to keep it under wraps. This project features a small, red-haired character and a detective crossing into alternate dimensions—concepts that have influenced many of Lynch’s subsequent works.

Lynch’s creative vision often toe-d the line between reality and the surreal. In a recent interview, Lynch shared that he believes every aspect of a project should come together in unexpected ways to create something truly unique. This perspective might hint at his continued influence in film, even after his passing.

The auction has stirred discussions on social media, with fans expressing nostalgia and admiration for Lynch’s work. While it remains unclear who acquired the Ronnie Rocket scripts, their sale continues to fuel speculation about whether Lynch’s vision for this project might one day see the light of day.
