Shedeur Sanders, the rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, recently found himself in hot water. He was pulled over for allegedly speeding over 100 mph in Ohio. The incident, which occurred on June 17, has caught a lot of attention, especially since Shedeur is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
According to the police report, Shedeur was clocked at 101 mph in a 60-mph zone. A woman named Jasmine Hammond was driving another vehicle and was also cited for going 92 mph. Bodycam footage shows the officer telling Shedeur, “I got you at 101 miles per hour.” Despite the serious offense, the officer decided to let Hammond off with a warning.
This isn’t the first time Shedeur has been in the news for speeding. Earlier in June, he was cited for driving 91 mph in a 65-mph zone. After these incidents, he acknowledged his mistakes, saying, “I’ve made some wrong choices personally, and I can own up to them.” He expressed that he’s learned from these experiences.
Shedeur’s journey to the NFL has been a rollercoaster. He was seen as a top prospect, but he slipped to the fifth round of the 2025 draft, selected 144th overall by the Browns. Now, he’s in a competitive quarterback room alongside veterans like Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
Star quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to miss time due to an Achilles injury, which raises questions about who will start in the upcoming season. The Browns will face the Bengals in Week 1, making the quarterback situation even more critical.
Sanders has the potential to bounce back and make a mark in the league. His father, Deion, is known for mentoring young athletes, and that legacy might inspire Shedeur to focus on his career. Only time will tell how he navigates this challenge and if he can turn things around on the field.
