The Princeton men’s track and field team made headlines recently by sweeping the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)’s Mid-Atlantic Outdoor Regional Awards. This remarkable achievement highlights their outstanding performance and teamwork.
Top Honors
Sam Rodman was named Track Athlete of the Year after a strong showing at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he finished fourth in the 800 meters. His personal best of 1:46.27 secured him First Team All-American status. Earlier this year, he also earned a silver medal in the 800 at the Outdoor Heps and contributed to another silver in the 4×400 relay.
Greg Foster took home the title of Field Athlete of the Year. He earned First-Team All-America honors in the long jump at the NCAA Championships, landing at 7.80m. His season included impressive victories at the Outdoor Heps, where he clinched both the long jump and the 110 hurdles titles. Foster even set a new personal record of 8.10m at the Virginia Challenge, showing his growth as an athlete.
Coaching Excellence
Robert Abdullah, Princeton’s assistant coach, was recognized as Assistant Coach of the Year. In his ninth year with the team, he guided the sprinters and jumpers to an impressive 85 points at the Heps, helping to qualify eight events for the NCAA East First Round.
Jason Vigilante, in just his second year as head coach, has steered the program to great success, leading the team to its second consecutive Triple Crown victory this year. Under his leadership, the Tigers celebrated five individual Ivy League champions and set six new program records.
