FSU Quarterback Calls Out Clemson: A Bold Statement on the ACC Rivalry

CLEMSON — Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos recently stirred up some chatter with comments about his time in college football. After transferring from Boston College to FSU, he didn’t hold back on his feelings about his former team and the rest of the ACC.

Castellanos expressed confidence, stating, “I feel like I tore the ACC up by my damn self for the last two years, and now I’m with a squad.” He believes Florida State is ready to turn things around after a rough 2-10 season last year. Coach Mike Norvell has brought in Castellanos and 23 other transfers, aiming for a quick comeback.

Despite FSU’s struggles, Castellanos isn’t intimidated by the upcoming season, especially their first game against Alabama. The Crimson Tide had a rare off year last season, finishing with a 9-4 record, but many expect them to be contenders for the College Football Playoff this time. Castellanos, however, remains unfazed, saying, “I dreamed of moments like this. I dreamed of playing against Alabama. They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me.”

It’s bold talk from someone who lost his starting position at Boston College last season. After a promising run there, he found himself benched under new coach Bill O’Brien. Castellanos reflected on his time there, saying, “BC wasn’t the school for me. I wasn’t able to be myself.” He wants a fresh start at Florida State, where he’s reunited with former coach Gus Malzahn. Castellanos feels empowered, stating, “He’s just giving me the keys and allowing me to just be me.”

As he steps into this new role, Castellanos faces formidable opponents like Clemson and Miami. Both teams will play a significant part in determining if his confident claims hold true.

With more players transferring than ever, Castellanos’ journey isn’t unique. In recent years, the NCAA has seen a spike in student-athletes switching schools, with a record 1,617 football players entering the transfer portal in 2022, according to NCAA statistics. This trend shows just how competitive and fluid college football has become.

The upcoming season will reveal if Castellanos can truly lead Florida State back to prominence, or if his words will simply add to the noise in an already intense atmosphere.
