Utah Father Tanner Martin, Who Shared His Inspiring Journey Through Cancer and His Wife’s Pregnancy Online, Passes Away Just Weeks After Welcoming Baby Daughter

Tanner Martin faced stage 4 colon cancer when he was just 25. His journey, shared with his wife Shay Wright on social media, was filled with moments of hope and love, especially as they welcomed their daughter, Amy Lou.

Tragically, Tanner passed away at the age of 30. In a heartfelt final video, he addressed his followers, saying, “If you are watching this, I am dead.” He wanted to leave a lighthearted message, reminding them of the love and support they showed him and his family. Tanner’s last wish was to ensure Shay and Amy Lou had what they needed to thrive after he was gone.

He encouraged donations to a GoFundMe campaign aimed at securing their future. “This will help replace my income,” he explained while cradling Amy Lou. The campaign quickly raised over $276,000, a testament to the impact Tanner made in his community.

Tanner was diagnosed in November 2020, and despite countless treatments, his health declined. Shay shared that hopes for a cure faded in February 2023, leaving them feeling defeated. Yet, they found joy in welcoming their daughter through in vitro fertilization, with Tanner’s determination to be present in her life shining through.

Statistics show that colon cancer among young adults is on the rise. According to the American Cancer Society, rates have increased by 47% in those under 50 since the mid-1990s. Such alarming trends emphasize the importance of early detection and awareness.

As Tanner’s story spreads online, reactions have poured in from social media, with many expressing their heartbreak as well as admiration for his resilience. Shay and Tanner’s commitment to each other and their child has inspired others to support their family during this difficult time.

This story serves as a reminder of the power of love and community support in the face of life’s toughest challenges.
