Oakland’s Summer Food Service Program is now accepting applications for 2024.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers free snacks and lunches during summer break. This initiative ensures kids have access to healthy meals while school is out, helping them thrive socially and academically.

Any child under 18 in Oakland, along with adults with disabilities in school programs, can join in.

Applications to become a 2024 SFSP site are currently open. Register here for the Summer Food Service Program.

Research shows that access to nutritious meals improves children’s well-being. A study from the USDA revealed that summer food programs can reduce food insecurity among low-income families. This means kids are healthier and more ready for school when they have regular, healthy meals.

Healthy eating habits foster positive self-esteem. The Summer Lunch Program plays a vital role in promoting wellness among Oakland’s youth. By encouraging nutritious choices, it supports a balanced lifestyle.

If there are any concerns of discrimination in this program, individuals can file a complaint through the USDA. They must use the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form or provide a letter detailing their concerns. For help, call (866) 632-9992.

In line with federal regulations, the USDA prohibits discrimination in all its programs based on various factors such as race and disability. The goal is to ensure everyone has the same access to important resources.

Support is available for all communication needs. If you require assistance in a different format, such as Braille or sign language, reach out to the local agency where benefits were applied.

Submit complaints to the USDA via mail, email, or fax. This institution is committed to being an equal opportunity provider.
