New Delhi – The Indian Coast Guard has recently enhanced its capabilities with the launch of the Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) ‘Adamya’. This vessel is the first in a new series of eight designed to boost maritime security.
Built entirely by Goa Shipyard Ltd, the ‘Adamya’ represents a significant step in India’s shipbuilding ambitions, fitting perfectly into the country’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) initiative. The Coast Guard celebrates this moment as a milestone in strengthening both indigenous production and national security.
With over 60% of its components sourced locally, ‘Adamya’ showcases the success of the ‘Make in India’ program in defense. It introduces innovative features like Controllable Pitch Propellers for better navigation and locally developed gearboxes, enhancing operational flexibility.
Equipped with advanced armaments like a 30mm CRN-91 gun and two remote-control guns, ‘Adamya’ is more than just a patrol vessel; it is a modern tool for the Coast Guard. It also includes high-tech systems such as an Integrated Bridge System and Automated Power Management System, allowing for precise and efficient operations across India’s vast maritime territories.
These FPVs act as “force multipliers,” enabling quicker responses to law enforcement, coastal surveillance, and search-and-rescue missions. They play a vital role in protecting India’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Recently, the Coast Guard launched its fifth vessel in this series, FPV ‘Achal’, further solidifying this strategic initiative. Both these vessels are certified by the American Bureau of Shipping and meet high standards of safety and performance.
In a world where maritime threats are evolving, India’s investment in indigenous vessels like ‘Adamya’ is critical. According to a recent survey, over 75% of citizens support initiatives that enhance national security through local production. This growing public interest aligns with the government’s focus on improving maritime capabilities to ensure safety at sea.
As technology advances, the Coast Guard’s fleet will keep adapting, promising a more secure future for India’s coastlines.
