On Friday, the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba buzzed with excitement as families enjoyed delicious food at the "Rally on Da Midway." It was the second food truck event of the summer, and the turnout was impressive.

Abbey and Nick Chenier brought their toddler, Cameron, to explore the food scene. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week,” Abbey said, eager for Cameron to try new foods. She planned to sample white fish and smoothies from a new truck called Boho Blender. Nick was excited for some fresh lemonade.

The variety of trucks was a feast for the senses. In addition to Boho Blender, attendees could find options like Whitefish on Wheels and La Catrina Mexican Food. These gatherings have now become monthly staples in the community, all thanks to The Grateful Cheese. Owner Heather Lewis shared, “We’ve been doing food rallies in Green Bay and thought it would be a fun idea to bring it here.”

These events not only offer a taste of local flavors but also strengthen community bonds. With food trucks providing picnic tables, many families took advantage of the lovely weather. “People are hanging out, seeing friends they haven’t seen in a while,” Lewis said.

Supporting local businesses is vital, especially for events like these to thrive. Abbey and Nick both emphasized the importance of community involvement. “It’s great to have these events, but we need support to keep them going,” Nick noted.

The next rally is planned for July, and Lewis will announce the date on her Facebook page.
