On Monday afternoon, a tornado warning was briefly issued for London, Parkhill, and Eastern Middlesex County. It went live at 3:48 PM but was lifted just 12 minutes later. This triggered alerts on many cell phones across the region.

The warning was prompted by a storm chaser who reported seeing what looked like a funnel cloud near Lucan, just north of London. Meteorologist Luke Crawford from Environment Canada explained that while the storm chaser couldn’t confirm if it was a tornado, they acted on the initial report.

Interestingly, social media buzz hinted that residents might have witnessed a tornado in that area around the same time. Recent studies show that these quick weather changes can catch many off-guard, with increased tornado occurrences in Ontario over the last few decades. According to a 2022 report by Environment Canada, tornadoes are now an average of 10% more frequent than in the past.
