Thousands gathered at Fergusson Park in Rialto on June 19 for the 3rd annual Juneteenth Jam, organized by Vickie Davis with the city and local school district.
This energetic event highlighted the spirit of community through live music, a car show, and a lively cook-off. The food vendors offered a delicious mix, quickly selling out dishes like homemade banana pudding and classic Southern favorites.
Sports added to the fun, with flag football games on one side of the park and a women’s 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament on the other. Skateboarders thrilled the crowd with their tricks in the skate park.
Many local Black sororities and fraternities joined in, showcasing camaraderie and culture. Attendees danced together, and custom Corvettes caught the eye of car enthusiasts. Plus, a Miss Juneteenth scholarship winner was crowned, adding a touch of celebration to the day.
Community resources were front and center. Various organizations provided educational materials about health, wellness, and empowerment. The Rialto Unified School District shared information about educational programs, and the IE Black Women’s Collective spotlighted Black-owned businesses.
Health initiatives were a key focus, with services ranging from mental health booths to free physicals offered by Tri-State Community Healthcare. Vickie Davis emphasized, “Our health is our most valuable asset.”
The Juneteenth Jam was more than just a celebration; it brought together families and friends from around the Inland Empire, marking a significant moment in history as they honored the end of slavery in the U.S.
