50 Burritos in 50 Local Restaurants: Our Epic Taste Test Adventure!

It all began with a simple question: “What’s the best burrito in Richmond?” After tasting our way through 50 restaurants, food trucks, and taquerias, we’ve discovered that Richmond is a treasure trove of amazing burritos, each with its own story.

This tasty adventure is part of the “Richmond Burrito Trail,” launched by the Grandview Independent. We set out to explore the city’s diverse burrito offerings—from The Point to Hilltop, trying everything from classic carnitas to cow tongue.

But this journey isn’t just about the food. Each stop introduces us to local business owners and regulars, revealing stories that enrich our community ties. Our approach? We order burritos anonymously to ensure a genuine experience without any bias.

As we get ready for the next round of tastings, it’s clear that Richmond’s food scene is always changing. New spots pop up, family recipes thrive, and creative fusions are born every day.

For our 50th burrito, we visited Richmond Eats, the beloved food truck that recently opened a brick-and-mortar spot in the old La Garage location. As we stepped inside, we were welcomed with a friendly “Hola!” That’s a good sign!

We opted for the Super Pollo Asada Burrito. It arrived packed with melted cheese, fresh chunks of white chicken, and not just guacamole but real avocado chunks. Interestingly, we noticed red beans, likely a variety we hadn’t encountered much before. The rice had an earthy quality, adding a delightful texture, balanced perfectly with fresh tomatoes, onions, and a drizzle of crema.

Another delicious touch was the choice of two salsas—green and red—both offering a satisfying level of heat without overpowering the flavors. Burritos came with thin, crispy chips that were a tad stale, but overall, it was a wonderful meal.

Interestingly, a survey conducted by the National Restaurant Association found that 80% of diners are more likely to visit a restaurant if it highlights local ingredients. This trend aligns with our experience in Richmond, where many eateries focus on community ties and sourcing local produce.

As we scale the heights of our burrito journey, we can’t wait to see where the next 50 burritos will take us. If you have a favorite spot you think we should check out, let us know!

Stay tuned as we continue this flavorful exploration of Richmond’s vibrant food culture.
