Dr. Cosacchi emphasized that the pilgrimage based on St. Ignatius’s spiritual journey is a core part of Mission and Ministry at the university. With support from the Jesuit Center, this program allows selected faculty and staff to take part in a meaningful experience that connects them to the university’s Catholic heritage.

St. Ignatius of Loyola’s legacy is felt throughout the campus. Walking in his footsteps makes this rich history even more real for those involved. Pilgrims visit significant sites like Loyola, Montserrat, Manresa, Barcelona, and Rome. Recently, the sixth cohort of this program had the unique opportunity to attend a Jubilee Mass with Pope Leo XIV, an event they found to be a “happy coincidence.”

Dr. Cosacchi, with his background in papal studies, highlighted the significance of this event. He mentioned that the scheduling of the Jubilee Mass was set by Pope Francis the previous year. Though it’s not common for these groups to see the Pope, when it happens, it enhances the experience.

He explained, “St. Ignatius had a deep devotion to the papacy. He dedicated the Jesuit order to the service of the pope, which adds a special connection for us.” This connection was particularly poignant as the attendees witnessed Pope Leo XIV during only the second papal Mass he hosted at St. Peter’s Square.

Such experiences resonate beyond the personal. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, many followers of various faiths look for deep, meaningful connections in spiritual experiences, reflecting a trend where individuals seek authenticity in their faith journeys.
