Day of Giving

The Pittsburgh Foundation is hosting a Day of Giving for the Garden City Food Pantry in Monroeville. On August 5, donations can be made online at PittsburghGives.org from 8 a.m. to midnight. Every donation of $25 or more qualifies for extra funds from the foundation. Just search for “Garden City Food Pantry” on the site.

Block Parties

This summer, Monroeville’s Recreation & Parks Department is throwing block parties for residents. Join local officials for good food and fun discussions. The first party is on July 17 at Overlook Park with Councilman Joe Hyzy, and the second is on August 12 at Monroeville Community Park West with Councilman Bob Stevenson. Both events are from 6 to 8 p.m. Enjoy a kid’s craft and tasty BBQ from the Gridiots food truck.

Veterans Car Show

On July 5, Plum High School will host its first Veterans Car Show from noon to 4 p.m. Car registration is $10 from 10 a.m. to noon. The first 100 entrants get dash plaques. Entry is free for attendees, and the day features food trucks, raffles, vendors, and music. Proceeds benefit Veterans Anything With Wheels.

Food Distribution

A free food distribution takes place monthly at Gateway High School. On the second Wednesday of each month, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., food is provided to nearly 800 families. No identification is needed to receive assistance.

School Sponsorships

Gateway School District is looking for sponsors for various facilities. If you’re interested, reach out to Jeremy Tepper at jtepper@gatewayk12.org.

Hillcrest United Presbyterian Events

Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church has several events coming up:

  • Blessing of the Pets on July 6 at 10 a.m. Bring chairs and ensure pets are leashed or in carriers.
  • Crafters’ Group meets on the second Tuesday each month for fellowship and creativity, starting July 8 at 6 p.m.
  • Summer music camp from July 7-11 for kids aged 6-12, ending with a performance on July 11 at noon.

Scholarship Opportunities

The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is offering a $2,500 scholarship sweepstakes for college students. To enter, you must sign up for communications about financial planning between June 5 and December 15, 2025. Twelve winners will be chosen, and the sweepstakes is exclusive to Pennsylvania residents. Monroeville Convention Center Events

Events coming up include:

  • Dinosaur Adventure on July 5-6 and July 11-13.
  • Stamp Scrap Art Tour from July 11-13.

Garden City Food Pantry

The Garden City Food Pantry holds distributions on the second Thursday of each month, starting July 10 from 6 to 7 p.m. Future dates are August 14, September 11, October 9, November 13, and December 11.
