In the forest near Gréasque, a charming village in southern France, scientists have stumbled upon a remarkable find: fossilized dinosaur tracks dating back 80 million years. While many dinosaur eggs have been uncovered on the nearby Sainte-Victoire mountain, actual footprints had remained elusive—until now. Experts identified these tracks as belonging to a herbivorous dinosaur known as Rhabdodon, which could reach up to four meters in length.

The search for these tracks actually began with a hiker in 2018. This person spotted an unusual rock formation near Fuveau and shared a photo with local scientists. Paleontologist Thierry Tortosa from the Sainte-Victoire Nature Reserve believed the rock showed potential dinosaur traces and decided to investigate.

Though the original rock formation wasn’t found, eco-guide Nicolas Bertucceli joined the search and discovered the new fossilized prints in Gréasque instead.

The tracks, which include both foot and hand impressions, indicate that Rhabdodon was a quadruped.
