BOSQAR Investment Acquires Mlinar

BOSQAR Investment has made a significant move by acquiring a controlling interest in Mlinar, a bakery group in the Adriatic region, for €100 million. This deal gives BOSQAR a 67% stake, with an immediate ownership of 50.1%. This acquisition is part of BOSQAR’s efforts to grow its Future Food initiative.

Earlier this year, BOSQAR also purchased Slovenia’s Panvita Group. By combining Mlinar and Panvita, BOSQAR aims to create a dominant food solutions platform in the region, enhancing operational synergies.

Darko Horvat, BOSQAR’s President, and Peter Polanič, Co-Chairman of Future Food, expressed confidence in this merger. They believe the strengths of Mlinar and Panvita will unlock new growth opportunities in various markets.

MidEuropa, the European private equity firm that supported Mlinar since 2019, will keep a minority stake in the company. Robert Knorr, Managing Partner at MidEuropa, highlighted the strong partnership built over the years and their shared vision for Mlinar’s growth.

In 2023, Mlinar recorded €163 million in revenue and employed around 2,500 people. The company operates over 300 sales points across Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia, and it exports to more than 20 nations.

Mladen Veber, President of Mlinar Group, stated that the firm is now well-positioned for greater aspirations in regional and international markets. After regulatory approval, BOSQAR anticipates its combined revenue could reach €700 million by 2025, with a workforce exceeding 16,000.

Recent market trends show a growing appetite for convenience foods, and bakers like Mlinar could benefit from this demand. With the rise of online shopping and changing consumer preferences, businesses in the food sector are increasingly adapting their strategies to meet customer needs.

This merger is a pivotal step for BOSQAR and its vision for the food industry in the Adriatic region. As food markets evolve, successful partnerships like this could set new standards for growth and innovation.
