Elon University Unveils Spring 2025 Fraternity Violations: What You Need to Know

Elon University recently listed Sigma Chi and Sigma Pi on its Student Organization Disciplinary Status page. This update came after the spring semester wrapped up. Both fraternities are part of the Interfraternity Council at Elon.

Sigma Pi is currently on disciplinary probation until September 2 due to “unauthorized consumption of alcohol at an unregistered event.” The fraternity has agreed to take responsibility for this violation and has committed to making necessary changes. As part of their action plan, all members must attend training on alcohol policies and risk management.

While Sigma Chi faced anonymous reports of hazing, these claims were not confirmed. Despite this, they plan to work with their national headquarters and the university to improve their practices. Members of Sigma Chi will also participate in a formal assessment and several educational programs focused on values and decision-making.

Interestingly, Sigma Chi has a history with disciplinary actions. Last spring, they were placed on probation for hazing-related incidents involving alcohol. They accepted responsibility then as well.

Both fraternities, along with Delta Delta Delta, which is also on probation for hazing, are among the few organizations facing disciplinary action this academic year. Last spring, more organizations faced similar scrutiny, suggesting a possible shift in how these groups operate.

Elon maintains a public record of violations to keep prospective members informed. This transparency allows students to make educated choices when joining organizations. Overall, the university seems to be taking steps to create a safer environment for its students.
