The Edmonds American Legion Post 66 and VFW Post 8870 are teaming up to help local veterans in need. They will collect food and personal hygiene items on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wilcox Construction Red Barn, located at 5th Avenue and Maple Street in downtown Edmonds.
Donations of hygiene items, like deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, lotion, body wash, and sanitary products, are encouraged. Cash and card donations will also be accepted. Checks can be made out to “American Legion Food Drive.”
The collected food will go to the Edmonds Food Bank to support local veterans. The Lynnwood Heroes Café will assist in distributing the donations.
“There are over 50,000 veterans in Snohomish County, and many still face challenges,” said Dan Mullene, the American Legion Post Commander. “Our community always supports our veterans, and this event offers another chance to help.”
VFW Post Commander Duane Bowman emphasized the community’s commitment. “Just last April, we received generous donations at a similar event,” he noted.
Participants can also bring used American flags that need disposal. Both commanders thanked Matt Lessard of Wilcox Construction for providing the venue and supporting these initiatives.

Engaging the community is crucial. According to recent surveys, donations to veterans’ organizations have increased by over 30% compared to last year, highlighting a growing awareness of veteran needs. Initiatives like this not only provide immediate assistance but also foster stronger community ties.
