The City of Flagstaff has made strides in improving its traffic system with the recent completion of the Beulah/University Realignment Project. This new development will enhance road accessibility and streamline traffic flow, thanks to a collaboration between the city, Eagle Mountain Construction, and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). As of Tuesday, July 15, all roads and the pedestrian underpass are open for use.
This project has been 25 years in the making. It aims to boost traffic efficiency and enhance safety for all users. City Manager Greg Clifton expressed gratitude toward all partners for their hard work. He noted, “This is a game changer for our community.”
ADOT’s Northcentral District Administrator, Jeremy DeGeyter, acknowledged the commitment of everyone involved, saying the project will deliver long-term benefits to transportation users. Walter Crutchfield from Vintage Partners emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that this initiative shows what can be achieved through collaboration between government and private sectors.
As traffic patterns evolve, drivers and pedestrians should stay alert and pay attention to new signage. The construction involved extending Beulah Boulevard to University Avenue and adding a roundabout, along with a redesigned pedestrian underpass and improvements to stormwater systems.
A recent survey revealed that 74% of local residents are optimistic about these changes, anticipating safer routes and reduced congestion. Such projects are essential in cities adapting to growth and increasing traffic demands.
