Ten people, including six children, lost their lives in an Israeli air strike in central Gaza while they waited to fill water containers. The tragic event occurred on Sunday, and local emergency service officials confirmed the casualties. The deceased were taken to al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, which also treated 16 injured individuals, seven of whom were children.
Witnesses reported that a drone targeted a crowd gathered next to a water tanker, where residents lined up with empty jerry cans. The Israeli military has yet to respond to requests for comment.
Unverified videos shared online showed the aftermath—bloodied children, lifeless bodies, and the chaos of panic and desperation. Local residents quickly moved the injured to hospitals using private vehicles and even donkey carts.
This air strike is part of a broader escalation in aerial attacks across the Gaza Strip. According to Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency, 19 other Palestinians were killed in separate strikes on residential buildings on the same day.
Israel’s military campaign began after Hamas launched a cross-border attack on October 7, 2023, leading to approximately 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages. Since then, the Hamas-run health ministry reports that at least 57,882 people in Gaza have died as a result of ongoing violence.
The humanitarian situation is dire. Most people in Gaza have been forced to flee their homes multiple times. Estimates indicate that over 90% of residences are damaged or destroyed. Vital services, including healthcare, sanitation, and water systems, are in disarray, with shortages of food, medicine, and shelter prevalent.
Recently, for the first time in 130 days, 75,000 liters of fuel entered Gaza. However, the United Nations emphasized that this is far from enough to meet the daily needs of the population. Nine UN agencies have warned of critical fuel shortages, which threaten to cripple essential services. Hospitals are already struggling; without fuel, operations in maternity, neonatal, and intensive care units could fail, and ambulances may become immobilized.
This situation highlights the urgent need for international support and a lasting resolution to the ongoing crisis in Gaza. As the conflict rages on, the effects on civilians grow more severe, demanding greater attention from the global community.
