KIIT-DU Assembles Record-Breaking Team for 2025 World University Games in Germany!

Bhubaneswar, July 10: KIIT-DU is making waves by sending the largest group of student-athletes to the 2025 World University Games (WUG) in Germany. This prestigious event, which can be likened to the Olympics for university students aged 17 to 25, will see KIIT representing India with 40 athletes across seven sports.

The Games will take place from July 16 to 27 in the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin. Over 300 student-athletes from 61 universities will compete after intense selection trials that included more than 400 universities from all over India.

For the fourth time, KIIT has been designated as a Nodal University by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), showcasing its leadership in sports education. This follows its involvement in previous events like Napoli 2019 and Chengdu 2023.

Key athletes from KIIT include Rupal (400m sprint), Ankita Dhyani (3000m steeplechase), Jeswin Aldrin (Long Jump), Praveen Chithravel (Triple Jump), and Animesh Kujur, the national record holder in the 100m sprint.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, the Founder of KIIT and KISS, emphasized the university’s commitment to integrating sports and education. He highlighted the investment in state-of-the-art training facilities and athlete support systems.

In addition to athletes, the 407-member contingent also includes experienced coaches like Arjuna Awardee Rahul Banerjee for archery and Sanjay Garnaik for athletics. Their expertise will be invaluable to the team’s success.

The Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the AIU, and the Odisha Government are backing this initiative to ensure athletes are thoroughly prepared. Impressively, KIIT leads Odisha with the most athletes selected, with a total of 42 players representing the state—second only to Punjab in national representation.

KIIT has a history of success in sports. At the recent WUG in Chengdu, athletes like Olympian Dutee Chand and Bhavani Devi made headlines, exemplifying the university’s strong performance on international stages.

In summary, KIIT-DU is not just participating; it is setting a new benchmark for Indian universities in sports. The focus on education through sports and robust institutional support makes a significant difference for these young athletes.
