The University of Indianapolis has welcomed four new trustees: Gail Farnsley, Andy Hammond, Pat Watkins, and John Worley. Their election took place during the June board meeting.
Deborah Daniels, the Board Chair, expressed enthusiasm about their appointment. She believes their combined knowledge and experience will greatly benefit UIndy as it continues to thrive. President Tanuja Singh reiterated this sentiment, noting that these trustees’ diverse backgrounds will significantly enhance the university’s mission to provide engaging education.
Let’s take a closer look at these new members.
Gail Farnsley is a retired IT executive with over 30 years in the field. Known for her dedication to mentoring women in technology, she has served on several nonprofit boards. Farnsley is especially keen on supporting first-generation college students, saying, “I appreciate UIndy’s vision of being welcoming to all.”
Andy Hammond, who graduated in 2006, is a Partner and Private Wealth Advisor at Truss Wealth Advisors. He has a deep connection to the university, being the son of a Hall of Fame coach. Hammond expressed his pride, noting that becoming a trustee was his dream since his senior year.
Pat Watkins, an alum and parent of two current students, is the co-owner of Mike Watkins Real Estate Group. He carries on a family legacy, following in his father’s footsteps as a trustee. “It’s hard to overstate the impact that this University has had on our lives,” he said.
Jeff Whorley, another 2001 graduate, has held executive roles at several Fortune 500 companies. He serves on the Ports of Indiana Commission and created an award recognizing outstanding faculty at UIndy. Whorley emphasized his gratitude, saying he wants to contribute to the university’s focus on lifelong learning.
Research shows that diverse leadership can foster innovation and enhance decision-making within organizations. According to a McKinsey report, companies with diverse boards are 43% more likely to outperform their peers. This trend highlights the importance of bringing varied perspectives to the table, something these new trustees embody.
All four new trustees will take their official seats in September. Their involvement comes at a crucial time as UIndy continues to adapt and expand opportunities for its students. For more details about the Board of Trustees and its members, check the official page here.
