In a striking case, the Supreme Court of India has asked the government to track down a Russian woman, Victoria Basu, who allegedly left with her five-year-old son from her marriage to Indian man Saikat Basu. Saikat Basu claimed that his wife and son have been missing since July 7. He stressed that, according to their custody agreement, the boy was meant to spend three days a week with his mother. There’s also a worry that the mother might be trying to leave India. The court directed the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs to issue look-out notices to prevent her exit from the country. They further instructed the police to seize her passport and sought cooperation from the Russian embassy, where the mother was reportedly last seen.

The couple met in China while Saikat was working as a software engineer. They married in India in 2017. Now, with divorce proceedings pending, the stakes are high. Safeguarding the child’s well-being is at the forefront of this legal battle.
