Apple has taken legal action against Jon Prosser, a prominent tech leaker, over allegations of stealing trade secrets tied to iOS 26. It’s claimed that Prosser convinced Michael Ramacciotti to gain unauthorized access to an Apple employee’s test iPhone. Ramacciotti allegedly exploited his friendship with Ethan Lipnik, an Apple software engineer, to learn the phone’s passcode. He used location tracking to see when Lipnik would be away from home and accessed the device, which had unreleased software.
In the lawsuit, Apple states that this information was shared with Prosser during a video call, which he recorded and used to create renders of the new iOS designs. Apple claims it learned about the breach from an anonymous tip-off in April, where a source recognized Lipnik’s apartment in Prosser’s video. There’s also a voice message from Ramacciotti apologizing to Lipnik for the incident and attributing the idea to Prosser. Following this event, Lipnik was let go by Apple for not securing unreleased software properly.
Prosser has publicly responded to the lawsuit on social media, claiming the situation is misrepresented. He insists he didn’t orchestrate the access to Lipnik’s phone and says he has proof to back his story.
Apple is seeking monetary damages and a court order to stop Prosser from revealing more about their trade secrets. Although iOS 26 has been officially announced, Apple argues that there are still undisclosed features at risk because of this breach.
