Representatives from St John’s Church in Hartley Wintney recently headed to Westminster, joining over 5,000 activists pushing for stronger climate action from MPs. They urged lawmakers to prioritize funding for communities affected by climate change and to support initiatives that create green jobs while promoting a fair and sustainable future.
One of the group members, Revd Sam Chandler, shared their belief that the Earth is God’s creation, deserving of care and respect. “We are called to love our neighbors, including future generations,” he stated.
Although MP Alex Brewer couldn’t attend due to illness, her team met with the group to listen to their concerns. They expressed gratitude for Brewer’s support of the Climate and Nature Bill and encouraged her to commit to stopping the Rosebank oil field project.
Alison Tebbs, another member of the group, felt a heightened sense of urgency after learning she would soon be a grandmother. “This makes the climate crisis feel even more real for me, given the world my grandchild will inherit,” she said.
