On July 21, Special Olympics Bharat held a touching ceremony in New Delhi to celebrate the success of the Indian football teams at the Gothia Cup 2025 in Sweden. Notable attendees included Raksha Khadse, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, and Mallika Nadda, the President of Special Olympics Bharat.
This year marked the 50th anniversary of the Gothia Cup, the world’s largest youth football tournament. The Special Olympics Bharat Boys’ Team and the Haryana U-15 Girls’ Team represented India, showcasing their skills on an international stage.
The boys’ team defended their title impressively, winning the championship for the second year in a row against Poland with a score of 3-1. Ankush Kumar was a standout player, scoring twice in the first half, along with another goal from Saheer Muhammad. Saheer finished the tournament as India’s top scorer, with seven goals overall.
Raksha Khadse shared her pride in these young athletes, stating they embody the spirit of India—courage, determination, and unity. Their success sends a powerful message that every child has the right to shine, regardless of their background or abilities.
Mallika Nadda emphasized the significance of their victory as a call to action. She highlighted the athletes’ resilience and urged society to invest more in inclusive sports programs. This triumph is not only about winning but about fostering an environment where everyone is valued.
