Oregon State Volleyball Team Excels in Academics
The Oregon State Volleyball team has been recognized with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Academic Award for the 2024-25 school year. This accolade is given to teams that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.30, highlighting academic excellence in addition to athletic performance.
With an impressive team GPA of 3.54, the Beavers showcased their dedication to both their studies and the sport. Six players maintained GPAs of 3.5 or higher, including three who achieved a remarkable 3.9 or above. Players Annika Hester and Lauren Rumel were honored with Academic All-District distinctions, and Rumel was also named to the West Coast Conference’s All-Academic Squad.
Coach Lindsey Behonick praised the team’s achievements, stating, “This award reflects their commitment to academic excellence and our core values as a team.”
This is the second consecutive year the team has received the AVCA Academic Award, marking its 13th win in history and the sixth since the 2014-15 academic year. Only two other schools in the West Coast Conference received this honor, which underscores the Beavers’ exceptional blend of athletics and academics.
According to a recent NCAA report, around 80% of college athletes prioritize their education, showing that the spirit of student-athlete remains strong across various sports. This trend highlights the importance of balancing education with competitive sports, a goal the Beavers have clearly embraced.
In a world that often values talent over tenacity, the Oregon State Volleyball team stands out as a role model for aspiring student-athletes. Their recent achievements demonstrate that passion for both academics and athletics can lead to success, both on and off the court.
