Healthcare needs are rising in Nueces County, and thankfully, residents and their pets can now receive free care.

Operation Health and Wellness is a week-long initiative aimed at addressing gaps in medical services. Local health experts, like Dr. Eric Baggerman, a pediatrician, stress that many individuals lack proper healthcare in Corpus Christi and the surrounding area. He noted, “There’s not a spot here without people needing care.”

The program offers walk-in services at three locations: Mission of Mercy, West Oso Junior High, and the Calderon Nueces County Center. No insurance is needed, and services include medical, dental, and vision care. Dr. Baggerman emphasized the importance of not just treating but also connecting people to longer-term healthcare resources.

Sherry Bowers, Executive Director of Mission of Mercy, highlighted the significance of their outreach. They provide essential services like vision exams, dental cleanings, and health screenings at no cost.

This year, the program also includes free services for pets, such as vaccinations and micro-chipping. Last year, thousands accessed these free services, and organizers hope to reach even more people this time.

Dr. Elizabeth Loila from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi called it a crucial start for those in desperate need of healthcare.

3. Calderon Nueces County Center:

   • Services: General medical, immunizations, diabetes screening, and women’s exams.

Dates and Hours:

• July 21-26: Open Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Animal Care Services:

• Dates:
  • July 21-23 at West Oso Junior High
  • July 24-26 at Calderon Nueces County Center
• Services: Microchips, rabies vaccines, and distemper shots for pets.
