With just hours before the Season 27 premiere of South Park, exciting news has emerged: co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have inked a new five-year deal with Paramount Global. This agreement promises at least 50 new episodes over five seasons, ensuring that South Park remains in the spotlight.

A significant part of this deal is a five-year exclusive licensing agreement with Paramount+, which is valued at around $1.5 billion. This means that all previous episodes, along with the new ones, will be available on Paramount+ after their initial airing on Comedy Central. Starting today, the South Park library, which was previously exclusive to HBO Max, will now become accessible to subscribers of Paramount+ in the U.S.

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global, expressed his enthusiasm about the ongoing partnership with Parker and Stone. He praised their unique comedic style and ability to push boundaries, highlighting that South Park is more popular now than ever.

The new agreement marks the end of a tumultuous negotiation period between the creators and Paramount, which had become complicated due to corporate changes within Paramount. The creators initially pushed for a 10-year contract instead of the five-year term that was eventually settled on. This back-and-forth led to a delay in the show’s return.
