Behind the Scenes: Rebecca Romijn Shares Her Adventures Filming ‘Avengers’ and ‘Star Trek’ at the Same Time

Rebecca Romijn received a warm welcome at Comic-Con for her roles in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Fans were particularly excited to see her reprise her character, Mystique, from the X-Men series.

Filming for Doomsday took place in the U.K., while Romijn recently completed shooting the fourth season of Strange New Worlds in Toronto. In a discussion during a Star Trek panel, she described managing both projects as “surreal and overwhelming.” She expressed gratitude to the productions for allowing her to balance both roles, adding, “It’s been a lot of time on the airplane.”

When asked about whether she’ll wear a zip-up costume for Mystique this time, Romijn playfully dodged the question, saying, “I cannot confirm or deny one single thing.” Still, she shared how thrilling the summer has been for her.

Reuniting with several X-Men co-stars in Avengers: Doomsday adds to the excitement. Notable actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Kelsey Grammer will join her in the film, which sees Robert Downey Jr. return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Victor Von Doom. According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, this film will be a significant step in integrating the X-Men into the MCU following the events of upcoming Avengers movies.

Interestingly, the inclusion of X-Men characters isn’t just a nostalgic nod; it’s part of a larger trend in the industry. Recent data from a 2023 survey indicated that audiences are increasingly eager for crossovers in superhero films, with 78% of respondents expressing a desire to see characters from different franchises team up.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026. It’s a film that fans are eagerly anticipating, as it promises to bring a fresh twist to beloved characters and storylines.
