Unlocking Safety: J&K Rail Introduces First Direct System Post Vande Bharat – Watch the Transformation!

Jammu’s railway system is getting a major upgrade. The Jammu division of Northern Railway has launched a direct unlocking system at Dinanagar station. This advanced technology helps control signaling and points, reducing human errors and improving safety. Vivek Kumar, the Divisional Railway Manager for Jammu, believes this will lead to a better travel experience for passengers. Indian Railways plans to expand this technology to other stations across the country.

This upgrade coincides with a broader modernization effort in Jammu and Kashmir’s rail network. The introduction of Vande Bharat Express trains connecting Katra and Srinagar is speeding up improvements. These trains enable the use of modern track maintenance machinery, dramatically changing how track upkeep is conducted in the region.

Here are some key updates in track maintenance within the Kashmir Valley:

  • A new tamping machine has compacted stone chips under nearly 88 kilometers of track. This ensures smoother rides and better track stability.
  • Two ballast cleaning machines have deep-screened about 11.5 kilometers of track, making it safer and more reliable.
  • To keep the tracks well-supported, 17 ballast rakes delivered around 19,000 cubic meters of ballast from various depots.
  • Track assessments using a recording car and oscillation monitoring system have been recently conducted to identify and improve weaker sections.

The upgrades extend beyond tracks to passenger coaches as well. Before the Jammu-Srinagar rail link, maintenance involved transporting coaches by road, making processes slow and cumbersome. Now, coaches can be sent via rail to Lucknow for necessary overhauls, streamlining maintenance significantly. All rakes are set to be upgraded by the end of August, enhancing overall service quality.

This transformation reflects a growing trend towards modernization in India’s railway system. According to a recent report by Indian Railways, investments in railway modernization have increased by over 30% in the past year. As railways play a crucial role in economic connectivity, efficient trains will likely boost local economies and passenger satisfaction.
