In Jammu, Dr. Sushil Sharma, Head of the Cardiology Department at GMCH, organized a cardiac awareness camp at Sidh Peeth Hanuman Khaatushyam Dham. This event aimed to educate people about the rising rates of heart disease and the importance of prevention.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remain the top cause of death worldwide. Dr. Sharma emphasized that lifestyle choices often play a more significant role in heart health than genetics. Research shows that daily habits like diet and exercise can greatly reduce the risk of heart disease.
Dr. Sharma encouraged everyone to take control of their health. He stated, “While we cannot change our genetics, we can improve our lives through better lifestyle choices.” Eating a balanced diet, staying active, avoiding smoking, and managing weight are critical steps everyone can take to protect their hearts.
Current studies support these claims. According to the World Health Organization, unhealthy diets and lack of physical activity are responsible for over 2 million deaths each year from CVD. Simple changes can save lives, making it essential to start now.
Those who contributed to the camp included Dr. Venkatesh Yellupu, Dr. Dhaneshwer Kapoor, and Dr. Neeraj Kumar Mishra, along with a dedicated team of paramedics and volunteers.
Overall, the camp highlighted the crucial link between lifestyle and heart health. Taking small steps today can lead to significant health benefits tomorrow.
