Vivo Tops Indian Smartphone Market in Q2 2025: Discover How Samsung and Oppo Followed!

Hyderabad: In Q2 2025, India’s smartphone shipments rose by 7% to hit 39 million units, according to Canalys. This increase comes after a slow start to the year when brands were cautious due to high inventories and political tensions.

Vivo led the pack, shipping 8.1 million units for a market share of 21%. Samsung followed with 6.2 million units and 16% market share. Oppo took third with 5 million units (13% market share), while Xiaomi and Realme rounded out the top five with 5 million and 3.6 million units, respectively.

The report highlights that Vivo’s success is thanks to effective promotion. The Vivo V50 series was particularly popular in cities, aided by large retail campaigns. Meanwhile, Samsung’s growth was driven by attractive financing options on their popular mid-range models, while Oppo gained traction with their A5 series.

Interestingly, Xiaomi and Realme faced a drop in shipments. Xiaomi struggled notably, seeing a 25% decline year-over-year. This shift may reflect changing consumer preferences and increased competition in the market.

Apple came in sixth place, with its iPhone 16 series making up over half of their shipments. However, some customers were disappointed with the lower-priced iPhone 16e, critiquing its limited features. Motorola, Infinix, Tecno, and Nothing completed the top ten list.

This smartphone market growth mirrors global trends. According to a recent report by Statista, smartphone sales worldwide are expected to exceed 1.4 billion units in 2025. This suggests a vibrant market that is adapting to innovation and consumer demands.

In summary, as smartphone brands evolve and respond to market trends, it’s clear that consumers in India are eager for new technology. The current landscape offers a mix of innovative features and competitive pricing, influencing purchasing decisions nationwide.
