Jammu, July 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha recently spoke at the ‘Navarambh’ ceremony, welcoming new BTech, MTech, PhD, and MSc students to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu.

He offered warm congratulations to the students as they kick off their academic journeys. Sinha praised the IITs for their vital contributions to the country, particularly in science and technology, which have significantly enhanced lives both in India and globally.

Sinha noted, “Science and technology are crucial for creating a developed India. We need IITians to lead this charge. Currently, India offers remarkable opportunities for IIT graduates—often better than what’s available abroad. I believe your skills and dedication will help make our nation an innovation hub.”

He encouraged students to tackle global challenges and be prepared for an ever-changing future. Sinha also assigned the faculty at IIT Jammu to enhance research programs of national importance and elevate engineering education to address real-world issues.

Highlighting recent successes, Sinha mentioned Operation Sindoor, stating, “This operation showcased the strength of India’s defense capabilities. It’s a reminder that the landscape of warfare is changing, and we must innovate in areas like cybersecurity and AI-driven warfare.”

He stressed the importance of IIT graduates stepping into roles within tech startups, the automobile industry, and the space sector. “The future will demand great leadership in energy, the environment, and artificial intelligence from IIT engineers,” he added.

During the event, Sinha launched four new programs for BTech and MTech students. He also recognized Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, the Director of IIT Jammu, for implementing these new courses and updating the syllabus to foster innovation and entrepreneurship.

Recent trends show a growing interest in tech startups among students. According to a report from NASSCOM, India’s tech startup ecosystem is booming, with the country now housing over 50 unicorns (companies valued at over $1 billion). This shift indicates that young graduates are increasingly leaning towards entrepreneurship rather than traditional job routes.

As the landscape evolves, experts believe that initiatives like IIT Jammu’s new programs will empower students to become pioneers in technology and innovation, meeting the challenges of tomorrow head-on. This new focus on practical skills and real-world problem-solving is essential in a world where technological advancements happen at breakneck speed.
