Discover the Transformation: Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s Ancestral Homes Set to Become Museums After Two-Year Renovation

In a significant move to honor the legacy of two iconic Indian actors, the ancestral homes of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Peshawar are being transformed into museums. This project began on July 28 and is managed by officials from Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

These historic sites will receive a significant renovation, expected to take about two years, with a budget of Rs 70 million. Dr. Abdus Samad, Director of Archaeology, noted that the renovation will focus on restoring the homes to their original beauty. The government aims to not only preserve these cultural landmarks but also enhance local tourism.

The homes were declared national heritage sites in 2014. According to Zahid Khan Shinwari, an advisor for tourism, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost tourism in the region with support from the World Bank. He believes this project will attract tourists from around the globe and create job opportunities, reviving interest in the shared cultural history of the Indian subcontinent.

Cultural investments like this one can have lasting impacts. Tourism can drive economic growth, providing locals with jobs while educating visitors about the rich cinematic history of the area. Statistically, heritage tourism has grown significantly, with places like Peshawar seeing increased interest as historical sites are preserved.

This project demonstrates how honoring the past can pave the way for a vibrant future in cultural tourism. By making these homes accessible as museums, visitors will have the opportunity to connect closely with the early chapters of Indian cinema. It serves as a reminder of the profound influence these actors had on the film industry and how their stories continue to resonate today.
