Hello, Wolf Pack Family,
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! The University of Nevada, Reno has joined the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (USU). This group connects public urban research universities across the U.S. to enhance workforce development, student success, and community partnerships. With 40 universities from 27 states, this coalition is dedicated to improving education and community health.
To be part of USU, a university must be a public urban research institution in a metropolitan area with at least 100,000 residents, enroll a minimum of 10 doctoral students yearly, conduct at least $10 million in research annually, and show strong community commitment.
Joining USU offers many perks, including:
- Access to over $3.5 million in grant-funded projects aimed at boosting innovation and equity in higher education;
- Networking opportunities for our faculty and staff to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities of urban-serving universities;
- Participation in the Urban Adult Learner Institute (UALI) for professional development focused on supporting adult undergraduate learners;
- Advocacy for urban-serving universities in policy and scholarly discussions;
- Involvement in strategic planning to ensure USU’s success for years to come.
This membership helps us work alongside other influential organizations and strengthens our mission to improve health and economic vitality in our state. By collaborating with other universities, we can lead an urban higher education agenda for public universities nationwide.
I want to thank our faculty, staff, and students for helping us achieve this milestone. Your dedication to excellence drives us to reach new heights in our 151 years of history.
Go Pack!
Warm regards,
Brian Sandoval
