On Tuesday, an infant was found abandoned in a yard in Dyer County, Tennessee. This discovery came just hours before authorities uncovered the bodies of four of the child’s relatives nearby.
As of now, there have been no arrests in the case. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation stated the probe is ongoing and they’re working to find those responsible.
Law enforcement from various agencies, including the FBI and U.S. Marshals, are involved. They received a call about the baby, who was left in a car seat on someone’s lawn in the Tigrett area, about 80 miles north of Memphis.
Medical personnel quickly attended to the child. Eyewitnesses reported that the baby was cradled by a kind paramedic in a heartwarming image shared online. Investigators are searching for a dark minivan or a white midsize SUV that may have dropped off the infant.
Later that evening, authorities found four bodies in Lake County, about 40 miles from Tigrett. Dyer County District Attorney Danny Goodman identified them as the child’s father, 21-year-old Matthew Wilson; the mother, 20-year-old Adrianna Williams; the grandmother, 38-year-old Cortney Rose; and the uncle, 15-year-old Braydon Williams. They were discovered in a wooded area, marking a tragic turn of events for the families involved.
This incident has shaken the local community. As Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box remarked, “This is a deeply saddening day for our community. We are committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice is served.”
Recent statistics indicate that infant abandonment is a growing concern in the U.S. According to a report by the National Abandonment Prevention Network, there has been a slight increase in such cases in recent years.
