Moscow Food Drive: A Community Effort to Tackle Hunger
Moscow is rallying together for a vital cause: the Great Moscow Food Drive. This initiative supports several important local food banks, including the Moscow Food Bank, West Side Food Pantry, Weekend Food for Kids, and the Deary Food Drive.
Joann Muneta, Chair of the Latah County Human Rights Task Force, emphasizes the importance of community involvement. “It’s all about bringing people together to support those in need,” she says. As summer approaches, Muneta notes that resources for programs like Weekend Food for Kids often dwindle. “We want to ensure kids have enough food during these months,” she adds.
You can help by donating non-perishable items, canned goods, or household supplies at booths located at the Farmers Market near Friendship Square and at East City Park. The drive will occur on August 2nd from 8 AM to 1 PM.
Community support is crucial. Muneta believes helping others creates unity. “It feels good to come together for a common cause,” she shares.
For those who can’t attend in person, online donations are also welcome.
Food insecurity remains a significant issue across the U.S. Reports show that over 38 million people lived in food-insecure households in 2020. Community efforts like this one can make a difference by ensuring everyone has access to food.
