Starting Monday, August 4, Buckeye will hold a food drive to help local families in need. This initiative, led by All Faith Community Services, is crucial as the nonprofit is struggling to meet the growing demand for food assistance. Currently, they provide about 5,000 food boxes each month, but they’re only able to fulfill 75% of the requests.
The community can help by donating nonperishable food items at various drop-off locations around town. In addition to food, monetary donations and perishable items can be given directly at their facility, located at 214 S. 5th St.
Here’s a list of drop-off sites where you can donate:
- Coyote Library: 21699 W. Yuma Rd. Suite 116
- Downtown Library: 310 N. 6th St.
- City Hall: 530 E. Monroe Ave.
- The Landing: 945 N. 215th Ave. Suite 137
- Senior Center: 201 E. Centre Ave.
- Human Services: 110 E. Irwin Ave.
- Police Administration: 21699 W. Yuma Rd. Suite 104
- Fire Stations 701-707: Various locations across Buckeye
This food drive is more than just a local effort. According to recent statistics from Feeding America, food insecurity in the U.S. affects 1 in 8 people. In Arizona, the situation is even more pressing. As of 2022, approximately 1.1 million Arizonians were struggling to access enough food. Initiatives like this not only provide immediate relief but also foster community support during tough times.
