Rural Hospitals to Receive Support Amid Medicaid Cuts
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is set to roll out applications for a new fund aimed at helping rural hospitals. Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz announced on Sunday that these applications will be available in early September. This initiative follows recent Medicaid cuts from a significant piece of legislation signed by President Trump last month.
The legislation, which aimed to fulfill several of Trump’s priorities, included hefty cuts to healthcare programs, notably Medicaid. This program is crucial for low-income and disabled Americans. In response to concerns from some lawmakers about the impact of these cuts on rural healthcare, the government has allocated $50 billion for a stabilization fund specifically for rural hospitals.
Dr. Oz highlighted that this funding will support workforce development and technological advancements like telehealth, which can revolutionize healthcare delivery. “Imagine a system where health is about enabling people to thrive,” he said.
The new law also introduces changes to Medicaid work requirements for certain able-bodied adults and increases the frequency of eligibility checks. According to the Congressional Budget Office, over the next decade, this legislation could lead to approximately 10 million Americans losing Medicaid coverage.

In fact, a recent study from KFF Health Policy showed that 92% of adult Medicaid recipients fit this category.
