Kansas Jayhawks Volleyball: Exciting Season Ahead
The Kansas Jayhawks volleyball team is ready for an exciting season starting August 23. Under coach Matt Ulmer, the team will shine on national TV, with four home games broadcasted from Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
“I want our team to play in exciting games,” Ulmer said. “Being on national TV lets everyone see our style, and we’re grateful for the opportunity.”
The schedule includes thrilling matchups. They will host Arizona State on September 26 at 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU, followed by a game against Arizona on September 28 at noon CT on ESPN. The Jayhawks will also face TCU on October 22 at 6 p.m. on FS1 and have a showdown against Kansas State on October 24 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
Before the Big 12 season, Kansas will start in the AVCA First Serve Tournament, playing Vanderbilt on August 23 and facing Penn State on August 25. After that, they’ll travel to Wisconsin to compete against the Badgers and Creighton.
The Jayhawks are currently ranked No. 14 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll. They finished the last season ranked No. 12, staying in the top 25 throughout. Their preseason ranking reflects a great deal of talent and hard work.
According to a survey by the AVCA, a majority of coaches believe that appearing on national television helps boost a team’s profile and attract recruits. This could further benefit the Jayhawks as they showcase their skills.
Additionally, the team garnered attention in the Big 12 Conference Preseason Poll, where they were picked second, earning four first-place votes. Cristin Cline, Reese Ptacek, and Jovana Zelenovic were named to the All-Big 12 Preseason Team, with Ptacek receiving a unanimous selection.
With engaging games, a talented roster, and a focus on visibility, the Jayhawks are set for an exciting season ahead.
