Don’t Miss It: Four-Star DL Target Elijah Golden to Announce Notre Dame Commitment This Saturday!

Elijah Golden, a standout defensive lineman from Cardinal Mooney in Sarasota, Florida, is ready to share his college decision. The four-star recruit will announce where he’s headed on Saturday, after considering offers from top schools like Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech. He officially visited all four in June.

Golden, standing at 6-foot-3½ and weighing 278 pounds, has drawn serious interest from a whopping 35 other programs. Some of the biggest names in college football — including Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio State — were in pursuit of him. He’s currently ranked as the No. 191 overall player, No. 19 defensive lineman, and No. 26 in Florida, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

His football journey began at King George High in Virginia before he moved to IMG Academy in Florida and then Cardinal Mooney. At Cardinal Mooney, he’s been coached by Jared Clark, a former Notre Dame player. Golden’s skills were evident last season, where he recorded impressive stats: 61 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks. His performance earned him a spot on the MaxPreps second-team junior All-America list.

So, where will he commit? After his visits, many felt that Notre Dame had the upper hand. Predictions leaned toward the Fighting Irish, especially from Rivals’ recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong. However, on July 17, Golden decided to delay his announcement, as other schools, particularly Oklahoma, ramped up their efforts. Alabama and Virginia Tech remain strong contenders too.

Golden’s commitment could be crucial for the Irish, as they hope to secure their 27th pledge for the 2026 class, which currently ranks No. 4 nationally. If he picks Notre Dame, he would contribute significantly to their defensive lineup.

You can watch his announcement on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel on August 9 at 3:30 p.m. ET, where he’ll showcase a hat from each of the schools. The anticipation is building, and fans are eager to see where this talented player will land.

As college football recruiting continues to heat up, many are watching how social media influences these decisions. Tweets, Instagram posts, and TikTok videos can sway opinions and amplify school pride. The buzz around Golden continues to grow, with fans and analysts alike offering insights and predictions. As trends in recruiting change, Golden’s choice may also reflect the larger shifts in college football, where location, program reputation, and coaching staff play pivotal roles.
