Interestingly, Brown lived nearby and was known to frequent the bar. After the shooting, he fled and disposed of his belongings. An image of him, taken shortly after the incident, showed him shirtless and barefoot, clad only in black shorts. It’s believed he later stole clothing from a vehicle.

His niece mentioned that Brown struggled with mental illness for years. Local residents echoed this sentiment, with one stating that Brown had PTSD from his military service and had elaborate stories that hinted at his disconnection from reality.

She described her mother as always cheerful, emphasizing how much the community has lost. Another resident, Shane Charles, remembered Nancy Kelley’s warm personality and noted that all the victims were beloved members of the community.
