Get Free Healthcare Services at SUNY Broome – Limited Time Offer!

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — This Sunday, a dedicated team from the U.S. Department of Defense is ramping up for Operation Healthy Broome. This initiative connects service members from the Army, Air Force, and Navy with local partners to offer free healthcare to those in need.

From August 11 to 20, the SUNY Broome Ice Center will be the hub for these no-cost health services. The program offers a range of services, including optometry, behavioral health, and even veterinary care at the local humane society.

US Army Lieutenant Colonel Kate Cavan highlights the variety: “We’re providing eye exams and new glasses, behavioral health screenings with social workers, dental work, and sports physicals for kids aged six and up.” Doors open at 8 a.m., and services will begin at 9 a.m. — all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sergeant Katie Delaney is excited to join the IRT team for the first time. “It’s great to apply our training in a real-world setting,” she says. “Not everyone in the military has deployed, so this is our chance to help our community.”

According to the Department of Defense, IRT teams deliver health services to thousands of patients annually. This partnership not only helps individuals but also allows military members to gain vital experience and strengthen community ties.

Access to healthcare has become a pressing issue, especially in underserved communities. Recent statistics show that nearly 29 million Americans lack health insurance, and initiatives like Operation Healthy Broome serve as a crucial bridge for those needing care.
