This figure is notably five times larger than what Columbia University agreed to pay over similar accusations. A senior official at UC expressed that such a hefty fine could “completely devastate” the university system, which includes ten campuses across California.

James Milliken, the president of the UC system, stated that they received Trump’s demand and are currently reviewing it. He emphasized the university’s responsibility toward taxpayer contributions, warning that this fine would severely impact not just the UC system, but also its students and Californians as a whole.
