GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida has taken a bold step in sports technology. It’s the first college in the U.S. to implement facial recognition for fans entering its stadium. This innovative system, called Express Entry, aims to speed up the process of getting into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium during home football games.
Fans aged 18 and older can enroll in this program using their Ticketmaster accounts. Once registered, they simply step into a designated lane, scan their face, and enter. The university assures fans that their information is secure, stored safely with encryption by Wicket, the company behind this technology.
Testing during two games this season showed that the new system significantly cut wait times for fans. “We’re always looking for better ways to improve the game-day experience,” said Scott Stricklin, the Athletic Director. “This lets fans spend less time waiting in lines and more time enjoying the game.”
Recent trends in sports have shown a growing interest in technology that enhances fan experiences. A survey by PwC indicated that 52% of sports fans appreciate innovations like mobile ticketing and faster entry systems. With this in mind, the popularity of facial recognition might continue to rise, not just in sports, but across various sectors.
Express Entry will be available at specific gates, ensuring that fans can enter quickly and efficiently. The university is dedicated to making the game experience enjoyable, and this is just one of many exciting developments to watch.
